Everyone counts!

Dar al Yasmin considers education and development very important. We are focused on bringing depth to the integration of newcomers into Dutch society, for example by offering courses in Dutch, introduction to Nijmegen society and exploration of entrepreneurship for newcomers.

We strengthen connections between cultures by introducing people to different aspects of Arab culture and also to other cultures.

For a number of years we have supervised trainees, particularly from the Arnhem-Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences, Avans University of Applied Sciences and Yuverta (the new name of Helicon). We provide educational activities for elementary school children and we occasionally provide workshops for secondary schools.

We have housed our language education in a language school.

Masters Education

During the time of the asylum procedure, it is generally good to stay active. People learn the language of the country where they are staying.

But during this time, it is also possible to learn other subjects and disciplines that will help you build a good future. Think about practical subjects, for example computers. Or exploratory subjects (especially if you are young): what do you like and find interesting? What would you like to go further in? Can you get your bearings in that?

What is unique about Masters Education is that many of the teachers are also newcomers. There are so many people with talents among newcomers. It also helps them when they can transfer these talents to others as teachers and thus take their first professional steps in their new society.

Language school

Part of Dar al Yasmin is our language school for Dutch and Arabic language lessons and language cafes.

Besides our language lessons on location (in Nijmegen) we also offer online language lessons in Arabic.

For adults and children we offer different courses. Our Dutch courses are intended for those who have passed the civic integration exams and are looking for more depth.

Our Arabic courses are offered at different language levels and are intended for people whose mother tongue is not Arabic, but who want to learn more about language and culture.

Our language café is also in Nijmegen and in addition we will soon start an online language café.

Our language school is distinctive because:

  • we pay a lot of attention to personal guidance, also outside the lessons
  • we focus on the use of modern standard Arabic in everyday life (conversation)
  • we pay a lot of attention to culture and to the (cultural) connotations of words in Arabic
  • in our Dutch lessons we focus on Dutch cultural values and on putting into words the living environment.

In our online lessons we use different tools that make a good interactive lesson easy. In addition to the lessons, you get individual guidance on homework and to answer one-on-one questions.

Personal development

In all kind of different ways we pay attention to personal development of (especially) newcomers.

Many of our activities in this area take shape within Dream Agency. Think personal coaching, theatre and art, for example.

For visual arts, we have been working with cultural centre De Lindenberg (in Nijmegen) for several years, with which we have set up an International Art Course. In the video, participants talk about their experiences with this course.

Training company

We are an organization of and for newcomers. Volunteering with us offers newcomers opportunities to learn.

In addition, we are a recognized learning company for students, especially in higher and secondary vocational education. Among other things, we supervise students in (International) Social Work, Event Management and Sustainable Environment.
